Eyecons

I made Eyecons purely for aesthetics. File icons usually come with their own colors, and those don’t always match the editor theme.

Eyecons recolors icons using the theme’s colors. For each color in an icon, it finds the most similar color in the theme. Red parts of an icon stay red and gray parts stay gray, but the exact shade comes from the theme. It compares colors in the OKLCH color space rather than by HEX codes. OKLCH is closer to how the eye sees color.

Eyecons supports Nord, Gruvbox, Dracula, Tokyo Night, and other themes. It detects the editor theme automatically. If your theme isn’t on the list, the icons use the colors of the built-in Dark (Visual Studio) theme.

You can see how the icons look with different themes on the project website.

How to start using it?

Install the extension from the Visual Studio Marketplace or with this command:

Bash
code --install-extension azat-io.eyecons

Then select Eyecons with the Preferences: File Icon Theme command.
